Conditions of Reproductive Health Dimensions in the 2023 Gender Inequality Index

April 12, 2024 | Other Activities

Gender Inequality Index (IKG) is an indicator used to measure differences or inequality between men and women in a population, especially in terms of reproductive health, empowerment and the labor market.

IKG is formed from 3 dimensions. The first dimension is the Reproductive Health dimension. This dimension consists of 2 indicators, namely the proportion of women aged 15-49 years who were less than 20 years old at the time of their first live birth (MHPK20) and the proportion of women aged 15-49 years who gave a live birth not in a health facility (MTF). These two indicators come from data from the National Socioeconomic Survey (Susenas).

During the 2018-2022 period, the MTF component decreased, namely from 0.188 to 0.114 in 2022. Meanwhile, the MHPK20 component tends to fluctuate. In 2018, the MHPK20 component was 23.8 percent, then in 2019 and 2020 it increased to 28.3 percent and 28.9 percent, but then decreased again in 2021 and 2022 to 27.5 percent and 26.9 percent.

IKG will get optimal results if women's reproductive health improves or in other words women's risks related to reproductive health decrease.
